The boneless English Roast is also known as the “Shoulder Pot Roast” and is cut from the front shoulder of the beef, the “Chuck Shoulder”. This is a well used muscle for pasture-raised cows, which means the roast can be tough if it isn’t cooked with enough moisture and for enough time. Traditionally, you’d want to slow cook this roast in the crock pot or an oven for hours, but these days a pressure cooker like the Instant Pot will also do the job.
The English Roast is also available with the bone-in.

This roast has less marbling and fat so added moisture during cooking is going to be key here. Try our recipe for Easy English Pot Roast in the Instant Pot!
Farming Practices
All of our cows here at John Henry's are grass-fed and grass-finished. We raise them locally on our family farm, and they are never given any hormones or antibiotics. Our fields and feed are never exposed to harsh chemicals or pesticides. Our cows are pasture raised and love to spend their days being outside with either their faces towards the sun or their rears towards the wind!
